Behind the noise
The story, the songs, and the moments that made Mix Mob.
was founded in 1996 by singer and bassist . The band got its start in an 8×8 storage unit with Matt’s bass, a four-track recorder, and a lot of ideas. Around that same time, Ryan and Matt wrote the foundation of what would become one of MIX MOB’s signature early songs, “,” in the spare bedroom of Ryan’s grandparents, Nana and Popo.
While attending Fresno State University, the band began building a strong local following throughout California’s Central Valley. After climbing into the Top 10 at Tower Records, MIX MOB decided it was time to take the next step.
The band packed up and headed south to San Diego, where everyone initially lived together in a house in Clairemont before eventually spreading out across Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and Mission Beach.
As MIX MOB continued gaining momentum in Southern California, the band caught the attention of , founder of Suburban Noize Records. In 2002, MIX MOB released its debut album, “So Cal Drunks,” through Suburban Noize Records. The album featured “Cruizer Love,” which became one of the band’s standout early songs and a favorite within the San Diego music scene.
After more than two decades away, Ryan returned to the creative process that had always driven him, bringing MIX MOB into a new era.
That new chapter began with the 2025 releases “Brighter Days,” “One More,” and “Rock Star,” as Ryan collaborated with musicians and producers from Nashville to Southern California. Much of the new material was created alongside producer at 17th Street Recording, with additional collaborations featuring .
Continuing this new era, MIX MOB released “Let’s Cruise” in October 2026.
The new music remains connected to MIX MOB’s unmistakable Southern California roots, blending reggae, rock, punk, hip-hop, and everything in between while continuing to experiment, cross genres, and evolve.
The band’s return reached another milestone when “Rock Star” earned a nomination for Best World Music Song at the 2026 San Diego Music Awards.
For Ryan, bringing MIX MOB back has always been about more than simply releasing songs. It’s about returning to what he has loved from the beginning: creating something from nothing.
A Message from Ryan Weaver
“I’ve always loved the process of creating and writing songs, taking an idea and a melody from pen to paper and bringing it all the way to your speakers, headphones, and PAs. In this new chapter, I’m infinitely grateful to once again have a platform to put more of those ideas out into the world, and I’m thoroughly enjoying the collaboration.
I’m incredibly appreciative of all of you who are still here, still listening, still supporting, and still moving with the Mix.”
And this is only the beginning.
More new MIX MOB music is on the way as Ryan continues creating, writing, collaborating, and building the band’s next chapter, one song at a time.
